A Simpler Way to Create an Evening Wind-Down Routine

We always love when our friend Shelly shares here because she has such a grounded way of connecting simple wellness habits with everyday life. She’s a homeschool co-op teacher, wellness enthusiast, and someone who believes small, consistent routines often matter more than dramatic changes. This week she’s sharing how Deep Blue became part of a more intentional rhythm of caring for her body before discomfort fully catches up with her.

What Happens When You Stop Ignoring the Signals Your Body Is Sending

The moment happened in the middle of a completely ordinary day.

I bent down to pick something up and felt that familiar pull in my lower back. Nothing dramatic. Nothing alarming. Just that lingering tightness I had started accepting as normal.

And honestly, that realization caught me off guard.

When had discomfort quietly become part of everyday life?
When did I start brushing it off instead of paying attention to it?

That moment shifted something for me because instead of pushing through like I normally would, I paused and reached for one of the blends that has slowly become part of my regular routine over the past year: doTERRA Deep Blue®.

But this time, it wasn’t only about feeling better in the moment.

It was about learning to care for my body before things started feeling overwhelming.

The Shift From Reactive to Intentional Care

A year ago, I mostly reached for Deep Blue when I already felt physically drained or uncomfortable.

Now I use it differently.

I’ve started paying attention to the smaller signals instead of waiting until my body feels completely depleted:

  • tight shoulders after long workdays

  • legs that feel tired after being on my feet

  • tension building during stressful afternoons

  • that general heaviness that’s easy to ignore when life gets busy

Instead of pushing through automatically, I pause for a minute.

Sometimes I apply Deep Blue.
Sometimes I stretch.
Sometimes I simply stop long enough to notice what my body needs.

And honestly, that small shift has changed more than I expected.

The Simple Deep Blue Routines I Keep Coming Back To

One thing I love about Deep Blue is how easy it is to work into everyday life.

Evening Wind-Down Routine

Most evenings before bed, I dilute Deep Blue with Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply it to my neck, shoulders, and lower back.

Over time, it’s become less about the product itself and more about the routine of slowing down at the end of the day.

That small pause helps signal to my body that it’s finally okay to relax.

After Long Days or Movement

Whether I’ve been walking a lot, working outside, or simply spending too many hours at my desk, I often apply Deep Blue afterward as part of my evening routine.

I love the cooling sensation, especially at the end of physically busy days.

Midday Reset

This one surprised me the most.

Sometimes during stressful afternoons, I’ll apply a small amount to my shoulders and pause for a few slow breaths before jumping back into work.

The cooling aroma and simple act of stopping for a minute helps me feel more grounded and present instead of mentally scattered.

DIY Deep Blue Recipes I Actually Use

These are simple blends I reach for often because they fit naturally into everyday life.

Cooling Muscle Roller Blend

Ingredients

  • 10 drops Deep Blue

  • 10 drops Copaiba

  • 5 drops AromaTouch

  • 5 drops Lemongrass

  • 5 drops Siberian Fir

  • Fractionated Coconut Oil

  • 10 ml roller bottle

Directions

Add oils to the roller bottle, fill the rest with carrier oil, and apply to shoulders, neck, legs, or other areas that feel physically tired.

I especially love this blend after long days when my body feels tense or overworked.

Soothing Recovery Bath Soak

Ingredients

  • 5 drops Deep Blue

  • 3 drops Frankincense

  • 3 drops Copaiba

  • 2 drops AromaTouch

  • 1 cup Epsom salt

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda

Directions

Mix the oils into the Epsom salt first before adding to warm bath water.

Soak for about 20 minutes during your evening wind-down routine.

This blend creates such a calming atmosphere and feels especially comforting at the end of stressful days.

Simple Massage Blend

Ingredients

  • 5 drops Deep Blue

  • 2 drops Lavender

  • 1 tablespoon carrier oil

Directions

Massage into shoulders, back, neck, or legs as part of an evening self-care routine.

I especially love adding Lavender because it softens the blend and makes it feel even more relaxing before bed.

“Release & Restore” Diffuser Blend

Ingredients

  • 3 drops Frankincense

  • 3 drops AromaTouch

  • 2 drops Copaiba

  • 2 drops Lavender

  • 1 drop Deep Blue

Directions

Diffuse during your evening routine or anytime your body and mind both need a slower pace.

What I love most about this blend is how grounding it feels. It creates an atmosphere that reminds me to stop rushing and settle down for the evening.

The Emotional Shift I Didn’t Expect

This was the part I never saw coming.

The more consistently I started caring for my body in small ways, the more emotionally aware and grounded I became overall.

I felt:

  • less reactive

  • more present

  • more connected to how I was actually feeling

  • quicker to notice stress building before it became overwhelming

Deep Blue stopped feeling like something I only used occasionally.

Instead, it became part of a healthier rhythm of checking in with myself before I hit a wall.

Final Thoughts

I used to think caring for my body only mattered once something started hurting.

Now I see things differently.

The small consistent choices matter more than I realized:

  • slowing down sooner

  • listening earlier

  • creating supportive routines

  • paying attention instead of pushing through

Because sometimes the biggest shift isn’t dramatic at all.

Sometimes it’s simply learning to stop ignoring the signals your body has been sending all along.
