“Rest isn't something we earn after everything is finished. Sometimes it's something we choose even when life still feels unfinished.”
Have you ever sat down at the end of the day and realized your mind is still working its way through everything that happened? The house may finally be quiet, but you're thinking about tomorrow's chores, a conversation you had, or someone you love who's having a hard time.
I know that feeling. When there's a lot going on, it's easy to keep going until bedtime and then wonder why it's so hard to settle down. A few familiar evening habits have helped me make that transition, and doTERRA Serenity® has become one of my favorite oils to use along the way.
If your evenings have felt a little hurried lately, here are five things you might enjoy trying.

It's tempting to squeeze in one more chore before bed. I've found that I settle down more easily when I start winding down while there's still a little evening left to enjoy.
That might mean dimming the lights, putting my phone away, or turning on the diffuser while I finish cleaning the kitchen. Choose something that fits what you already do each evening, so it feels easy to keep up with.
Serenity's warm, comforting aroma is one I enjoy coming back to at the end of the day. I often diffuse it while I'm getting ready for bed. On other evenings, I'll dilute it and apply it to the bottoms of my feet.
Having the oil handy makes it easier to remember to use it. You could keep it near your diffuser or with the things you reach for before bed.

Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, and Vetiver are among the botanicals in Serenity. I enjoy the way their aromas come together in this blend, especially in the evening.
We each have our own preferences when it comes to scent. Pay attention to what you enjoy and how much fragrance feels comfortable in your room. Start with your diffuser's directions and adjust within those recommendations.
I enjoy diffusing Serenity before bedtime, too. Its aroma is lovely while we're spending a quiet evening at home, and I like walking into a room where the diffuser is already going.
Think about what makes you comfortable at the end of a long day. It could be a softer lamp, a blanket, or a few minutes sitting together without the television on. Those are the kinds of things I want to leave a little time for.
There will usually be an unanswered email or another chore waiting. I have to remind myself that I can leave some of those things until morning and still call it a good day.
When other people are depending on us, taking time to rest can feel difficult. Giving myself a little time to sit down and unwind helps me feel more ready for whatever the next day brings.

Life doesn't always become easier overnight, but our routines can help shape how we move through it. Whether it's turning on the diffuser, taking a few slow breaths, or giving yourself permission to pause before bed, those small moments can become something to look forward to during busy or challenging seasons.
For me, Serenity has become part of that evening rhythm—a reminder to make room for quiet, gratitude, and rest, one evening at a time.
