DIY Grease-Cutting Kitchen Spray: Tackle Tough Messes Naturally
Grease has a sneaky way of building up on stovetops, vent hoods, cabinet doors, and backsplashes. And once it’s there? It’s sticky, grimy, and a magnet for dust. If you’ve been scrubbing with elbow grease or reaching for harsh degreasers, it’s time to swap that bottle for a powerful DIY solution that’s safe, effective, and budget-friendly.
This grease-cutting spray uses natural ingredients and essential oils to break down stubborn buildup — no harsh fumes required.
Conventional degreasers often come with a long list of chemical ingredients — some of which can irritate your skin and lungs or leave behind residues you don’t want in a food prep area. Homemade cleaners give you the power to clean confidently without the trade-offs.
No synthetic fragrances
No ammonia or toxic solvents
Family- and pet-safe
Earth-friendly ingredients
1 cup distilled white vinegar
¾ cup distilled water
1 tablespoon castile soap (or for best results - OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate)
¼ cup rubbing alcohol (helps cut grease and speeds drying)
10 drops Lemon essential oil
5 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops Purify, Abode, or OnGuard blend
Add vinegar, water, and rubbing alcohol to a 16 oz glass spray bottle.
Add castile soap (or cleaner concentrate).
Add essential oils.
Shake gently before each use.
Spray directly onto greasy surfaces, let it sit for 1–2 minutes, then wipe clean with a microfiber cloth or sponge.
White vinegar – Breaks down grease and deodorizes naturally
Rubbing alcohol – Dissolves grime and speeds up drying time
Castile soap – Lifts away grease and dirt without harsh chemicals
Essential oils – Bring antimicrobial benefits and help break down oily residue
Lemon 🍋 – A natural degreaser that cuts through sticky messes
Tea Tree (Melaleuca) 🌿 – Antibacterial and antifungal
Abode® / OnGuard® / Purify® – Powerful blends designed to clean and purify
Eucalyptus 🌬 – Helps dissolve sticky residue and adds a refreshing scent
Grapefruit 🍊 – Great for cutting grease and freshening the air
Oregano or Thyme 🌿 – Potent oils that tackle heavy grime and offer antimicrobial power (use just 1–2 drops!)
⚠️ Avoid citrus oils on plastic surfaces — they can degrade some plastics over time.
Use this spray regularly on stovetops, oven doors, and vent hoods to prevent buildup.
For extra-tough spots, spray and let sit 3–5 minutes before wiping to break down grease more effectively.
Add 1 tsp baking soda directly to greasy spots (not in the bottle!) for gentle scrubbing power. (Enjoy the fizz)
Wipe with a warm damp cloth for best results.
Test on painted or delicate surfaces before full use.
Say goodbye to the chemical cloud and hello to a cleaner kitchen powered by plants. This grease-cutting spray is proof that natural solutions don’t mean sacrificing strength — they just make cleaning a little more joyful.
